REV. DR. GLORIA AGHOGAH
Professional Biography
The Rev. Dr. Gloria McCrae Aghogah is a Spiritual Formation Facilitator at Duke Divinity School and a Clinical Chaplain II at Pruitt Health Hospice. A powerful expository preacher, she is widely known for her unique gift to teach the Bible with clarity. She has preached, conducted workshops, and led retreats in numerous churches. Her international interests in missions, preaching, and pastoral care has been shared with many in Mexico, Haiti, Barbados and Bermuda. She is passionate about the church and church development. She is currently publishing her book, From Maintenance to Mission: Changing the Paradigm of A Small Church, a guide for developing disciples to go and make disciples.
The Rev. Aghogah received her undergraduate degree in Theater Administration in 1994 at North Carolina Central University. She continued to follow her passion for the arts at The North Carolina School of the Arts where she studied fi lm. She received the Master of Divinity degree from Duke University Divinity School in May 1998. Her concentrations of study while at Duke were Religious Education and Pastoral Care. She completed a one year residence studying Clinical Pastoral Care at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center specializing in Substance Abuse, Mental Illness and the Women’s Clinic suffering with Depression. She received her Doctorate of Ministry at the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in 2013.
Elder Aghogah serves the Western North Carolina Convocation of the United Holy Church of America, Inc., on the Board of Presbytery. She has served as the Pastor of Bethlehem United Holy Church of America in Durham, N.C. and St. John United Holy Church of America in Greensboro, N.C., The President of the WNCD Junior Missionary Department; The Chairman of the Evangelism Committee; Dean of the United Christian Institute. She currently serves on the Board of North Carolina Central University Campus Ministry and she serves on the Board of Directors for One World Market.
She has been employed as a Clinical Chaplain at UNC Hospital. She also has been a Supervisor as a Clinical Chaplain II at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women [the largest maximum prison in NC including Death Row] for over 7 years.
